Indeed looks ready

Special correspondent Palmerston North Indeed looked in great order when he worked in bad conditions at Awapuni yesterday. Indeed looks improved by his race at Manawatu on June 17, as that was his first since a winning run at Trentham in May. Indeed has won three of his last five starts for trainers Alan West and Gerry O’Neil. He is engaged in the Farewell Handicap at Hastings on Saturday and looks a leading prospect. Working on a very heavy course proper, Indeed finished in front of Primasea after 1200 m in Imin 255, the last 600 m in 40s. This was good time. Lee McKenzie will ride Indeed at Hastings. Solitaire was at home in the ground when she shaded La Rue after 1200 m in Imin 27.45, the last 600 m in 42.4 s with Solitaire a length clear. She has trained on well since running second behind Swift Venture at the recent Manawatu meeting. Solitaire is in the Te Mata Handicap at Hastings although s’he may also be an acceptor for the big race at Avondale on Saturday. She would certainly need the ground wetter than it was on the first day at Hawke’s Bay. Margaret Bull will

make a decision regarding her programme later this week. La Rue looked an improver at her last start at Manawatu and is engaged in the Frimley Handicap at Hastings. Wet ground suits the Riverton mare best. Port Cairo and Nalu covered 100 m in 1.125, the last 600 m in 41s. They may race at the Wanganui meeting next Tuesday. Nalu is close to winning form. Grey Culate and Paddy Waggon ran from the 1600 m, the last 1200 m in Imin 29s and the 600 m in 445. Grey Culate is the topweight in the Hastings Steeplechase with his stablemate and first day winner Royal Bank engaged as well. Their trainer Eric Temperton said yesterday that if the weights are suitable Grey Culate might be reserved for Wanganui on Tuesday. Cashelamara ran from the 1200 m in Imin 26.85, the final 600 m in 425. She looks in excellent heart and will be a starter at Wanganui on Tuesday. Gavade worked from the 1200 m in Imin 28.6 s and took 44.4 s from the 600 m. He gets another chance as a hurdler in the Pukehou at Hastings. Baraden ran quietly over a round, the last 1200 m in

Imin 30s, and the 600 m faster in 425. He was far from disgraced in the Awapuni Hurdles and he will not be out of it in the Hawke’s Bay Hurdles this week. Tekau Kaahu was timed over 1200 m in Imin 275, the last 600 m in 435. He races in the Bracelet at Wanganui and then back as a hurdler at Trentham. He has taken really well to jumping and his last start win at Awapuni was brilliant. Star Bid and Paris Belle covered 1200 m in Imin 26.45, the last 600 m in 455. Star Bid beat the maidens very easily at Hawera last week. He is engaged in the Frimley Handicap at Hawke’s Bay. Loterie D’Angleterre galloped 1200 m in Imin 26s and her latest efforts suggest a chance in the Frimley Handicap at Hastings.
