Guards for dance
Security guards will attend a dance at the
Caledonian Hall this evening as a precaution against the type of disturbance which disrupted a similar dance held at the hall three weeks ago. The dance is being run by the Alternative Entertainment Bureau and Creative Education for young unemployed people. At the previous dance, which was organised by the same groups, a clash between dancegoers
and the police led to about 15 arrests.
A spokesman for the organisers said last evening that a number of security guards from a martial arts club would be present at this evening’s dance. She said she met the police yesterday to discuss the dance, but did not expect any problems. Proceeds from the dance will go to the Unemployment Centre and to the Tamariki School.
