Water polo changes

A change to the structure of national club water polo championships has been made, after only one year of reversion to an old system. Last year, amid considerable controversy, the championships . — played on a tournament basis for 10 years — reverted to a oneoff final. The two-round tournament system was reinstated, overwhelmingly, at the week-end’s annual meeting of the New Zealand Water Polo Board, in Christchurch.

The first round, and the provincial A grade championships, will be held for both men and women at Queen Elizabeth II Park at the end of December; and the second round, and B grade provincials, early in March at Waiouru. A “grapplers’ tournament, for over-355, will be held in Hamilton, also in March. Mr K. A. Mark resigned as national coach and as a board member, because of family commitments, and

his replacement as coach has yet to be made. Also, the national chair-:, man, Mr C. P. Walls, re- 1 ’ signed; his replacement is Mr Jaap de Haan, a member of the board since it was moved to Christchurch in 1967. The members are Mesdames E. Stone and B. Dickie, Miss G. K. Smeith, and Messrs N. J. Lanyon, W. R. Williamson, G. J. Barry, T. M. Nicholls and R. Carter.
