Biologist awarded Antarctic trophy
A Christchurch biologist, Mr Graham Wilson, has been awarded the New Zealand Antarctic Society’s Conservation Trophy for 1983.
Mr Wilson has studied penguins, seabirds, and seals in the Antarctic and subAntarctic since 1969 — research which the judges considered a valuable contribution to the preservation and conservation of Antarctic and sub-Antarctic fauna.
The trophy is an Emperor penguin carved in walnut. Mr Wilson is the tenth recipient of the trophy. Awarded since 1972, the trophy goes to a person or organisation contributing significantly to any aspect of Antarctic or sub-Antarc-tic conservation or preservation of flora and fauna, historic building sites, artefacts, and the natural features of the continent and islands.
