In this book George decides to cure his grandmother’s nastiness once and for all. He concocts a very special medicine which. is as nasty as she is and then he waits for the results! The Call of the Wild. Written by Jack London. Published by Penguin as a Puffin classic. Jack London’s tale of a dog’s fight for survival in the harsh and frozen Yukon in Canada is one of the greatest stories ever written. It tells of a dog born to luxury but sold as a sledge dog, and how he rises magnificently above all his enemies to become one of the most feared and admired dogs in the north.
The Lost World. Written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Published by Penguin as a Puffin classic. Journalist Ed Malone is looking for an adventure, and that’s exactly what he finds when he meets the eccentric Professor Challenger: an adventure that leads Malone and his three companions deep into the Amazon jungle to a lost world where dinosaurs roam free and the natives fight out a murderous war with their fierce neighbours, the ape-men. Little Tim and the Brave Sea Captain. Written and illustrated by Edward Ardizzone. Published in Kestrel and Puffin by Penguin. This story, originally published in 1936, has delighted children for nearly 50 years. It was the first of the “Little Tim” series and has always been the most popular of them all. Little Tim lives in a house by the sea and longs to become a sailor. His parents say he is too young but one day he seizes his opportunity and stows away on board a large steamer.
