Wage and price freeze
> Sir, — The action of the Canterbury meat workers in not going out on strike in support of the F.O.L. claim for $2O a week should prove to the average New Zealander that most of us just want to get on with the job. In the long run, strikes just cost us money. — Yours, etc., R. CROSS, June 3, 1983.
Sir,—lt is good to see that the workers in Canterbury voted against the union directive to strike next Tuesday. What do they hope to achieve by striking for a $2O-a-week increase when we have a wage freeze on? The only thing that would happen as a result of a strike would be more disruption to the economy, lost wages, lost production, and a win to unions’ aims. — Yours, etc., J. B. STEVENS. June 4, 1983;
