Paparua road signs to be improved
Stop signs will be erected on all intersections still uncontrolled along the Old West Coast Road. Paparua County’s Rural District Council wants the signs because of a big rise in traffic on the road. Four buses now use it and ski traffic has also increased. Placing the signs is estimated to cost $1650.
Signs throughout the county will be improved. The area has 148 stop signs, 42 give-way signs, and 50 speed-restriction signs and 25 per cent of these are thought to require improvement. The recognised life of a reflectorised signs is generally put at between seven and 10 years and as many of the county’s sign are older, the council decided to bring in an annual programme to replace old signs.
