Place secured in hockey final
Canterbury won -the under-21 women’s hockey area qualifying tournament played at Ashburton at the week-end, winning its four games. The strong Canterbury side had three big wins but the local team, Ashburton held it to 2-0 in the other match. Canterbury will now join four other teams in the national final in Christchurch at Queen’s Birthday Week-end.
Final points at the tournament were: Canterbury 8, Ashburton 5, Malvern 4, Nelson 3 and Marlborough 0. Results were:— Ashburton 3 (N. Smith 2, B. Sheate), Marlborough 1 (F. Stringer); Malvern 6 (S. John-
