Peninsula play
1983 marks the twentyfirst anniversary of the Peninsula Merrymakers.
This dramatic and musical group, which is based in Diamond Harbour, plans to celebrate the occasion with a comedy called “Fringe Benefits”.
The play, which runs from May 11 to 14 at the Diamond Harbour Hall, explains in comical detail the problems of arranging a holiday. Two couples are arranging their annual joint holiday to Torremolinos where they have been going for the last seven years.
However, both the husbands and the wives have
decided (separately) they would rather not go. The wives are just plain sick of the place but the husbands have heard that two, very attractive girls from the office are also taking their holidays at the same time and have not made any plans. Of course complications arise and things do not quite work out as planned. Helen Smith will produce the play. Later in the year, the Merrymakers plan to celebrate the anniversary by holding a special reunion.
