Baroque recital on at Town Hall
A baroque recital, featuring musicians, Keith and Margaret Sayers, will be presented at the Christchurch Town Hall on May 5.
The recital will include works by Handel, Pepusch, Croft, Dieupart and Stanley with Keith Sayers performing on the baroque oboe and recorders and Margaret Sayers on the harpsichord.
Both musicians have been playing the oboe since their teens and were members of the New Zealand National
Youth Orchestra for three years.
Mr Sayers studied in Christchurch and in Dunedin where he played for the then Dunedin Concert Orchestra.
Mrs Sayers studied music in Germany, where she gained the German diploma for music teaching. After their marriage, the pair moved to Europe. They furthered their studies of the oboe at the
Hamburg Academy of Music before setting out as freelance musicians.
Apart from playing the modem members of thfe oboe family, each is an accomplished performer on the oboe d’amdre and cor anglais.
Their knowledge of baroque music has been extended through research and appearances with the Hamburg Baroque Players and the Hamburg Baroque Trio.
