Fears for patient

A deserted campfire site in the rugged Hanmer Range is the only clue searchers have to the whereabouts of a patient missing since Sunday from Queen Mary Hospital, at Hanmer Springs. Fears are mounting for the safety of the patient, John Joseph Adams, aged 40, of Wanganui. The weather is deteriorating. Mr Adams was thought to have been wearing only light clothing when he left the hospital about 6.30 a.m. on Sunday, said Constable P. F. Gilfedder, of Hanmer Springs. At 9.45 p.m. on Sunday, a small fire was seen in the Jollies Pass area of the Hanmer Range. Forestry staff found the remains of a campfire. Twenty-seven men and two police dogs and dog handlers from Christchurch yesterday searched on foot.
