Student job scheme
PA Wellington The Municipal Association wants the Government to establish another student employment scheme for summer jobs.
The association’s annual conference yesterday supported a remit from Wellington City asking the Government to establishment a new scheme to be funded on a 2 to 1 basis — $2 from the Government, for every $1 from a local authority. In its submission to the conference, Wellington — which at 'Christmas used $lOO,OOO of its own money to employ 80 students — said local bodies had traditionally given students jobs over the summer holidays. The Labour Department’s student community service programme was abolished by the Government last year. i" ■
