Effort to end strike

PA Rotorua The Northern Pulp and Paper Workers’ Federation, and the president of the Federation of Labour, Mr W. J. Knox, will meet Tasman Pulp and Paper Company officials on Wednesday in an effort to end the 11day strike which has stopped work at the

company’s Kaweratir mill; The meeting was suggested by Mr Knox, said the mill’s pulp and paper operations manager, Mr Barry Ashwin, yesterday. Tasman has agreed to a 3 lest by Mr Knox that it over until after the meeting 43 suspensions due to take effect on Tuesday,

Mr Ashwin said. 1 About 600 pulp and paper workers are on strike. The federation claims a 19.2 per cent wage increase, but the company says it cannot grant tins as 12 other unions have already agreed to a 13.2 per cent rise. No time has been set for Wednesday’s meeting.
