Passenger killed in ’copter crash
PA Invercargill One man died and another escaped with minor injuries when a helicopter crashed at Doubtful Sound on Thursday evening. The man killed was Colin Jeffrey Yeates, of Te
Anau. He was a passenger in the helicopter, piloted by Stuart John Feaver, also of Te Anau.
Mr Feaver suffered a broken ankle and other minor injuries in the accident
The helicopter, a Hughes 500 owned by Alpine Helicopters, Ltd, was reported overdue from a shooting expedition about 10 p.m. on Thursday. Sergeant P. Brown, of the Invercargill police, said yesterday morning that the helicopter was last heard from about 5.30 p.m. An air search was mounted at dawn yesterday morning and the wreckage found about 7 a.m. on a steep slope at Crooked Arm in Doubtful Sound.
