High-country land trials

Parliamentary reporter Trial assessments on the concept of designating highcountry land as multiple-use land, are being run by the Lands and Survey Department. The concept of multipleuse land was put forward in the Clayton Report, from the Committee of Inquiry into Crown pastoral leases and leases in perpetuity. These trials were being done on ; groups of Crown pastoral leaseholdings in three, separate land districts, said the Minister of Lands, Mr Elworthy. They were being co-ordi-nated ■ by the Land Settlement Board. ‘ Reports from the trials so far-had been sent to, the board, which would report to, the Government before aijy. further action was contemplated, he said.
