Death of actor

NZPA London The British actor, James Hayter, who played the grouchy Mr Tebbs in the television series, “Are You Being Served,” has died in Spain. He was 75. Mr Hayter had been acting for 48 years before going to live in Spain a few years ago. He leaves a widow and seven children. Mr Hayter appeared in several early films including, “Tom Brown’s Schooldays” and “Calling Bulldog Drummond.” In the 1950 s he won success as Mr Pickwick and Friar Tuck on the screen. In the 1960 s he appeared for several years as Alfred Doolittle in the stage play, “My Fair Lady.”
