Swedish plan to stop submarines

Sweden’s military authorities should use force without warning against alien submarines discovered under the surface in. coastal territorial waters, according to a proposal made by a special commission appointed to examine the question of the pursuit of foreign - submarines which violate Swedish territory during peacetime.

The measures proposed represent a further tightening of the Swedish attitude to such violations of its

territory and follow a directive from 1982 that alien submarines should be forced to the surface in order that further measures may be taken.

The suspected presence and ensuing hunt for one or more foreign submarines in the archipelago south of Stockholm last year, which gave no concrete result, prompted the Government to ask the commission to consider a further sharpening of the procedures for submarine hunts.
