Concession fares

Sir,—We wish through your column to express our dissatisfaction with the Christchurch Transport Board's policy in regard to concession fares. The board stipulates that the minimum concession ticket is 40 rides, and -while this is fine for city dwellers who may travel a ,few sections it is a large outlay for the new’ “Catch us in the country” service. When rung at the start of their service to Rangiora the C.T.B. assured us that 40 trips were considered to be too many and that the board would be looking into a 10 trip ticket as we have had in the past. Further inquiries this month reveal that 40 trips is the minimum, the cost from Rangiora to St Bede's, $33.60, with two children an outlay oi $67.20, in advance, and too bad if you lose a ticket.—Yours etc.,'

R. J. and P. M. MANNING. ■ February 2, 1983. [Mr M. G. Taylor, General Manager, Christchurch Transport Board, replies: “The substantial outlay for a 40-ride School Concession Card or a 20-ride Adult Concession Card from the likes of Rangiora is acknowledged. This is a matter that the committee currently reviewing the board's fare structure will be considering in the near future. In the meantime, to provide some measure of relief: the rules covering the use of school concession cards have been amended to allow several children travelling together to use only one card."]
