BMX thefts on increase
The Christchurch police are worried about the growing number of BMX bicycles being stolen. Many of the stolen bicycles were being stripped for parts and in some cases traded in for new or latermodel machines, the police said. BMX bicycles are heavier and more expensive than regular bicycles and are used in the bicycle equivalent of motocross. The police say that using the police computer they have managed to trace some of the stolen machines that have been traded in and some offenders have been apprehended. Investigations are continuing in other cases and the police have asked the public to help slow the thefts by giving them information about any suspicious activity with BMX bicycles.
