Hyatt take-over begins
PA Auckland Auckland's Big I. the Hotel Intercontinental, today becomes the Hyatt Kingsgate, signalling the start of the Chicago-based Hyatt International’s management of key units in the Vacation Hotels. Ltd, chain. Two red Hyatt signs will be unveiled atop the downtown hotel today. Vacation's ‘ Queenstown hotel and the. Vacation Rotorua hotel, scheduled to open in October, will also be named Hyatt Kingsgate. The name was chosen to create a uniform international title for hotels controlled hy the Vacation chairman ' and managing director. Mr Ho Whye Chung, and the deputy chairman. Mr Ho Sim Guan, who are also
joint owners of the 400-room Hyatt Kingsgate in Sydney. As well as running the Vacation Auckland and Queenstown hotels, Hyatt will provide management help to seven other Vacation hotels. The Vacation Christchurch hotel will become the Hyatt Kingsgate Christchurch when a $5 million improvement is completed in mid-1984. The Hyatt Kingsgate Auckland is being improved to five-star standard under a $6.5 million budget provided by Vacation's Singapore majority shareholders. Hyatt has already installed a team of overseas specialists to conduct training courses for staff and begin redevelopment of the Auckland and Christchurch hotels.
