Five runners, three winners for sire

Nelson The American-bred stallion. Nardin’s Byrd, had five runners on the first day of the Nelson meeting on Saturday and they gained three wins and a second. Nardin Lustre and Nardin’s Castle filled the first two platings in the Prince Albert Hotel Handicap, while Hamish won the Benson and Hedges Nelson Cup. Lyndon Robert completed the day’s T.A.B. double when he won the Cable Price Toyota Classic. The only blemish was Sierra Byrd’s twelfth in the Hampden Hotel Handicap. Nardin’s Byrd was sold to Victorian interests last season and since then his progeny have done particularly well, both in Australia and New Zealand. He will be represented by five colts and four fillies at the National Yearling Sales next month.

Nardin Lustre is the first horse raced by Mr Ivan Court, a farmer, of Ladbrooks, and he showed ability

above average when, at his race debut, he was successful in the Prince Albert Hotel Handicap at Richmond Park. He held out a brilliant late burst from. Nardin’s Castle by a nose, with a length and a’ half to the pacemaker. Speedy Prince. The first three are three-year-olds and all’made their race debuts 'on Saturday. Nardin Lustre was the first of two winning drives for Colin de Filippi, Gold Sceptre being the other. Jack Smolensk! increased the pool of Cl horses in his team when he was successful with Krazy Horse in the Globe Tavern Handicap. He also, won with another three-year-old, Timely Play, which is raced by Mr and Mrs Rex Gillman. of Rangiora. Timely Play is now unbeaten in two starts. Robert Dunn gained wins with Lyndon Robert and Equality, the last-named followed Windfall throughout the Hampden Hotel Handicap and came on to win by a long head in a tight finish.
