Brych alleges defamation

Auckland Lawyers acting for the controversial cancer therapist. Milan Byrch. have filed a defamation action for $75,000 against an Auckland doctor. Professor Philip John Scott. , . The writ was lodged in the High Court at Auckland on December 20 by an Auckland lawyer. Mr David Short, who confirmed last evening that he was acting direct on instructions from Mr Brych. Mr Brvch. who left New Zealand in 1977 after a controversy surrounding his method’s of cancer therapy, faces a number of charges brought by the Los Angeles District Attorney's office. Mr Short said last evening

that Mr Brych would returnto New Zealand from the United States to contest the defamation action, probably late this year. Mr Simon Lockhart, Q.C., of Auckland, has -been briefed by Mr Short to bring the court action for Mr Brvch. Mr Short said the action claimed defamation by Professor Scott during a lecture given by him at the Auckland Medical School. The lecture was said to have been reported in the United States. Professor Scott is believed to be preparing to defend the action, but he could not be reached last evening for confirmation.
