Marilyn Monroe’s name being exploited
NZPA Los Angeles The executors of Marilyn Monroe's estate may sue to halt the growing trend among Paris shops and department stores to sell items bearing the actress's name. Mr Roger Richman, a lawyer for Monroe's heirs, said they had been shocked to learn that articles bearing her name were being sold in Paris. Mr Richman mentioned specifically three big Paris department stores — "Au Printemps," "Galeries Lafayette." and "La Samaritaine." and two shops named
"Strictly Marilyn and "Remember Marilyn." He said none of these stores had been licensed to sell items bearing either the name or picture of Marilyn Monroe, and said lawsuits would be filed in France if the stores did not stop the practice immediately. In the United States, the executors of the will have given trade rights for the use of Monroe's name to Bloomingdale's. a New York department store. Marilyn Monroe died 20 years ago in an apparent suicide.
