Oakley escaper in Hastings?

PA Auckland The police in Auckland yesterday extended their inquiries to Hastings as they sought one of three men who escaped from Oakley Hospital on Tuesday. Taite Paul Heremaia, aged 20. was still at large last evening and police believe he may be in Hawke’s Bay. Detective Sergeant B. J. Metcalf said the police had ascertained that Heremaia was not the man spotted with another of the escapers. Stanley Howard Coster, shortly before Coster was caught in Mount Roskill on Wednesday. Heremaia was in the psychiatric hospital on remand awaiting trial on a charge of rape.

Meanwhile, the police in Auckland reported they have no new lead in their search for a man who entered Middlemore Hospital earlyon Thursday and threatened three nurses with a gun before escaping with a lot of drugs. The police fear the hospital robber may strike again to support a drug habit.

Detectives believe the robber is probably using the drugs, which include morphine. pethidene, and codeine, and say he took enough to support a bad drug habit for up to a w-eek.

But they fear that if the manhunt drags on they will see a string of further armed hold-ups as the robber’s supplies run out.
