Mare leaves for U.S.
NZPA Sydney Rose of Kingston, last season's Australian Horse of the Year, has been sent to the United States for stud purposes. The mare left Melbourne this week for Kentucky, where she will be mated with either Green Dancer or Exclusive Native. Rose of Kingston is expected to stay in the United States for at least 12 months and her progeny will be raced there.
The mare, sired by the Italian stallion, Claude, which was brought out to Australia by the owner Mr David Hains, won 10 of her 26 starts and was the first filly since 1944 to win the A.J.C. Derby. She also won the Australasian Oaks, the V.R.C. Oaks and Ascot Vale Stakes. A strained suspensory ligament ended her racing career which finished with a win in the Coongy Handicap at Caulfield on October 13.
