Waikato doctor injured

PA Auckland The Medical Officer of Health for Waikato, Dr James Huia Penniket, was undergoing surgery in Middlemore Hospital, Auckland, last evening after an accident on the southern motorway involving two cars and a trailer carrying a yacht. Dr Penniket is believed to have suffered serious leg injuries in the accident, which blocked one lane of the motorway for about 25 minutes.

It is believed that Dr Penniket was struck by a car after stopping to investigate a puncture on the trailer he was towing.

Both cars, the yacht, and trailer were damaged. The driver of the following car was cut from his vehicle by firemen and taken to Middlemore Hospital with head injuries. His name and condition were not immediately available
