Fewer nurses leaving

Fewer nurses have been going overseas in the last year compared with the year before, according to a recent survey by the New Zealand Nurses' Association.

In the year ended September 30. 1982, there was a net migration loss of 75 registereD nurses, compared with 398 the previous year. During the same period, there was a net migration gain of 17 midwives, compared with seven the year before.

Miss Shona Carey, executive director of the association. said that the figures showed a similar continuing trend apparent for some time in other New Zealand occupational groups. “New Zealanders are returning home in greater numbers than before, and nurses are no exception," she said. At the same time, fewer nurses were leaving the country.
