Drivers seek pay rise

PA Wellington The Drivers' Federation has formally notified transport employers of a $2O wage claim in line with the decisions of a recent Federation of Labour special conference. The drivers' advocate, Mr R. J. Campbell, said yesterday that this formal step, together with a request to meet transport employers on

an award-wide basis, was seen by the drivers' national council as laying the ground for active promotion of the F.O.L. claim. Stop-work meetings of members would be held throughout New Zealand early next year. “The Drivers’ Federation is considering an invitation by the Arbitration Court for a’ further formal hearing on the general drivers’ award

consequent upon Court of Appeal ruling upholding the validity of the Wage Freeze Regulations," Mr Campbell said. "The federation was approached recently by the Court asking whether a further hearing was required, and in conjunction with the Federation of Labour is considering such a hearing on both technical and substantive matters."
