International prints

The work of Bea Maddock, an Australian printmaker with an international reputation, will be on display at the Robert McDougall Art Gallery from tomorrow until February 13. The 57 prints on a wide variety Of subjects have already been shown in Wellington and New Plymouth, and from Christchurch will go to Dunedin and Wanganui.

Since the mid 19605. Bea Maddock has exhibited regularly in major print shows overseas, and has held more than 20 exhibitions in Australia.

Examples of her prints have been seen in New Zealand before, and several have

been bought for public collections, but this is the first time such a wide spectrum of her work has been shown together. Maddock's prints are said to originate either from world disasters, or from objects that reflect the artist herself, such as a chair, her shoes, coat and gloves. As well as the prints, the exhibition will include information panels on itow she prepares her work. A lecturer in printmaking at the Victoria College of Arts, plans are underway to bring the artist to New Zealand for a workshop and lecture visit next July.
