Canterbury A. Canterbury Miners and Tasman were the winning teams on the opening day of the South Island under-17 cricket tournament at Greenmeadows, Nelson, yesterday. Results were:— Otago 183 (S. Robinson 44. C. Simpson 36, S. McKnight 34: B. Ritchie 3/27, G. Andrews 2/21, G. Merrin 2/35) lost to Canterbury Minors 186 '5 (R. Dennison 44, B. Ritchie 44, G. Merrin 39 n. 0.) by
four wickets. Canterbury A 249 7 dec. (G. Lunn 65 n. 0., A. Vincent 57. G. Turner 50: G. Oliver 3/51) beat Canterbury B 130 (A. Murray 34. G. Scott 22: R. Petrie 3/28, A. McCormack 2/22) by 119 runs. Tasman 138 (B. Carren 29, N. Davies 24, J. Wilson 18; B. Willocks 5/17, G. Piches 3/36) beat Southern Districts 118 (D. Weir 47, Willocks 17; L. Scott 3/ 30. N. Davie 3/14) by 20 runs.
