Caning
Sir.—l wholeheartedly support Mr lan Leggat’s stand on caning. Caning is a blatant imposition on the reasoning powers of a young adult. It is the outcome of a very limited kind of reasoning that starts in early childhood. Young children often exist in a senseless world of adult imperatives and quickly learn that violence takes precedence over thought. Mr Leggat should be supported in his efforts to prevent the perpetuation of this system. — Yours, etc., ELIZABETH LITTLE, President, Child Care Association, Christchurch. December 7, 1982.
