Maritime Carriers. Ltd. the shipping subsidiary of Christ-church-based Waitaki N.Z. Refrigerating, Ltd, will close. The company used three ■vessels —•; the Totara. the Dunedin and the Waitaki —■ which called regularly _at Lyttelton as part of a Tasman run. The manager of Waitaki Refrigerating. Mr A. R. Hutton, said yesterday that the move had been made because of the fall-off in’’Tasman trade. He also blamed the recession, which was affecting shipping throughout the world. “We are very sad that we are phasing the operation down,” said Mr Hutton. The Union Steam Ship ComSinay take over the Totara bly when she ends her present voyage. The Waitaki may be laid up. The managing director of the Union Company, Mr J. N. Keegan, said it had reached agreement with Maritime Carriers, and was negotiating to have the Totara’s charter assigned to the Union' Company. He said that if the negotiations succeeded, the Union Company would use the Totara on the Tasman run. ARRIVALS Peruvian Reefer (6 a.m.), 6010, Auckland (Scales).
