Police called in on leak
PA Wellington The Government has called in the police to discover who leaked the Trade and Industry Department's price freeze minutes to Mrs Ann Hercus (Labour. Lyttelton). Mrs Hercus, Labour's spokesman on consumer affairs, last month detailed confidential information from a departmental directors' meeting held on August 2. The meeting indicated a general despair about administration of the price freeze and warned that it would eventually become impossible to police breaches of the freeze. It was the latest in
a series of Government leaks.
The Trade and Industry investigation was apparently ordered by the department's Minister. Mr Templeton. Detective Chief Inspector P. J. O'Donovan said yesterdav that the police hoped that the investigation would end soon. They were looking to see if any offence had been committed by the leak, including one of breach of secrecv.
Mr Templeton would be advised of the inquiry's result, said the director of investigative services at Police National Headquarters, Detective Chief Inspector B. F. Scott.
