Airport caterer discharged

PA Wellington Airline Caterers, the company which runs the Wellington Airport domestic cafeteria, has been discharged without conviction on four of 24 charges of breach of the Food Hygiene Regulations.

In the District Court at Wellington. Judge Bate dismissed 20 charges against Airline Caterers and discharged another four under section 42 of the Criminal Justice Act. The company was ordered to pay costs of $350.

Two days of evidence was heard in ’ September, when the hearing was adjourned until November 5.

The Health Department originally laid 54 charges of breach of the Food Hygiene

Regulations at the airport cafeteria, 27 against Airline Caterers, and 27 against a company director. Bernard Williamson. The prosecution withdrew three charges against Williamson and the Judge found the other 24 not proved. The Judge said there was no evidence to suggest that Williamson had permitted, authorised, or consented to the breaches.

Three charges against Airline Caterers were also withdrawn. The Court was told that a departmental inspector had found linoleum lifting, a cracked handbasin, cockroaches. grime, and a lack of cleanliness in the cafeteria and kitchen.
