It was now unlikely any firm proposal would come before the council this financial year. . iMr Fry said that the civic centre was being well used, y and maintenance deferred last year must now be done t& conform with child care regulations under which the £. centre was licensed.
The council had allowed $5OOO in its 1982-83 budget for alterations at the Arts Centre ready for the Cathedral Square creche’s move. As this money will now not be needed this year, the committee recommended using it for maintenance work at the Civic Child Care Centre. This will include replacing worn linoleum, sanding and painting nursery and toilet walls, and installing a fan. Youth centre The committee’s chairman, Cr D. J. Rowlands, reported "quite a good groundswell of support" from people for the proposed Christchurch youth, entertainment centre. Cr Rowlands said a site was still sought. The Christchurch Youth Council had raised $7OO to $lOOO with fund-raising at each school. The City Council had also given grants.
