Lack of practice
NZPA Sydney The Australian test fast bowler, Geoff Lawson, arrived home yessterday, blaming lack of practice, the weather and general wicket conditions for the Australians’ disastrous showing on their seven-week tour of Pakistan. Australia failed to win a one-day or provincial match and lost the Test series 3-0. Lawson said that he also felt Pakistan's leg spinner, Abdul Qadir, was too much of a task for the batsmen. "He is a world class spinner — the best I’ve ever seen. He was just too good," Lawson said.
' A university student, Lawson, aged 24, backed the Australians’ decision to walk , off the field because of rock i throwing incidents by the . Pakistani crowds. “The players were really i in danger,” he said. : Lawson was the only player or official who spoke i to the press yesterday, as i they were all apparently under instructions not to dis- > cuss the tour. , He was happy with his i own performances during the tour. > "I have got a few Test • wickets,” he said. “But that doesn’t make up for losing 3nil."
