‘Penguins’ in town
"Penguins in my Socks” has arrived and means to stay. "Penguins" is a brand new (it has only been together for a few weeks) children's theatre group. It is made up of six young people, employed under the Arts Employment Scheme, who are getting together a programme of original material that will be staged
for schools and community
groups, in city streets and malls. According to one of the troupe, Nic Farra, if the group finds an empty space it will perform. “We are akin to any kind of environment.” This "free-form” children's theatre will have its first try-out before Education Department and Labour Department authorities next week. The first production
will be "Maxine's Midnight Feast." In all its work, the troupe intends to speak to youngsters rather down to them. Although "Penguins in my Socks" has only been formed for the summer, or six months. Nic' Farra and fellow member, Priscilla Clark, intend to be still going after the time limit and self-suffi-cient.
