Youth in concert

Rowan Prior of Christchurch, who has just returned from competing in the finals of the recent Commonwealth Games Concerto Competition in Brisbane, will be the feature artist in a concert by the Christchurch Youth Orchestra on Sunday, at 8.15 p.m. During the concert at the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament. Rowan will play

Elgar's concerto for cello and orchestra, composed in 1919, and recognised as one of the great works for solo cello and orchestra written during this century. The rest of the programme will include the ever-popular Serenade for Strings by Tchaikovsky, an Adagietto by Bizet, and a Fanfare by the English composer, Michael Tippett.

The Christchurch Youth Orchestra has had a busy year, with a recent tour to Nelson, a part in the South Canterbury Arts Festival in Timaru and Oamaru, and contributions to concerts in Christchurch. The Youth Orchestra hopes to present another programme, a lunchtime recital, later in the year.
