Musical for children
“Nutcracker Sweet,” a new musical for children which has never been performed by an amateur group, will be staged next year by the Canterbury Children's Theatre.
Planning is already under way for this special May holiday production which will be presented at the James Hay Theatre.

by David • Wood who also wrote another Children's Theatre production — “The Gingerbread Man." Wood, who is also an actor, is acknowledged in Britain as one of the best contemporary writers of theatre works for children. “Nutcracker Sweet" is the tale of the Nutty May Fair. It features Kernel Walnut, who is in charge of the fair; Gypsy Brazil, the fortune-
telling nut; William the Conker, strong of body but not of brain; Monkey Nut, a dangerous nut; Old Ma Coconut, from the coconut shy; and the villainous Professor Jelly Bon Bon who wants them all in his high class chocolate confectionary. The show will be directed by Penny Giddens and musical direction will be by Malcolm Jones.
