Man accused of fatal stabbing
PA Wellington “See you in Heaven. Pete. Take me now, O Lord,” a woman told her boyfriend as he stabbed her to death, the High Court in Wellington was told yesterday. Those were the dying words of Susan Kathleen Keenan, aged 27, according to a statement the accused, Peter Robert Howse, is alleged to have made to the police. Howse, aged 32. an unemployed process worker, of Palmerston North, has pleaded not guilty of the murder of Miss Keenan on May 1 this year. He is alleged to have said
that Miss Keenan had attacked him with a knife and that during the struggle she cut herself and the two of them fell to the floor.
Howse allegedly said he then realised that the knife handle had broken off and he could not find the blade. He had assumed it was inside her.
The police said in evidence that they found Miss Keenan lying on the floor of her bedroom. She had four stab wounds to the body and a knife embedded in the lower back. The handle had been broken off and was lying a short distance away.
The trial is before Mr Justice Greig and jury.
