Animal Week

Sir,—l would like to add my voice to those of your few correspondents who protest against cruelty to animals in this country. As well as the inhumane gin traps and hen batteries, we allow the removal of stags’ horns without anaesthetic and the sometimes barbarous methods used in the name of animal husbandry. It seems that the throwing of live mice at beauty contests stirs the conscience of more people.—Yours, etc., D. G. HEARD (Mrs). October 10, 1982
