Good run by filly
Special correspondent Wingatui Queen’s Pal earned a big following for the Dunedin Guineas this week when she finished’ second to Lucan’s Double in the Telegraph Handicap at Wingatui on Saturday. “That rtm should clean her up nicely,” said Lyn Prendergast, co-trainer of Queen's Pal, which was having her first race for five months. Queen's Pal trailed close to the lead and ran on solidly to finish half a ; length from the winner, Lucan's Double, which was also having his first start since April. He
finished fast from mid-field. Super Dude was disappointing, a view shared by his rider Jim Collett. He raced outside Queen’s Pal then wilted to tenth. “He had-a good run but might be improved with the race,” said Collett. Charles Beaufort ran a sound trial for the Guineas when he easily won the Auckland Handicap in which De Gaulle finished on well for second. Notre Dame, another Guineas entrant, staged a big run from back in the field for second in the third Members’ Maiden.
