Prince Majestic for Japan Cup
PA Auckland The owners of Prince Majestic, Mr and Mrs Bob
Ross of Takanini, have accepted an invitation to race their horse in Tokyo as New Zealand's representative in the Japan Cup, on November 28. Prince Majestic’s trainer, Ray Verner, said yesterday that in view of the proposed trip the gelding would probably be brought back to New Zealand immediately after the Caulfield Cup, on October 16. A Melbourne Cup start was not unlikely. Blue Denim was to have represented New Zealand in
the inaugural Japan Cup last year but was withdrawn from the race after a breakdown.
The Japan Cup will be run over 2400 metres, left-handed on turf, at Tokyo racecourse. Prince Majestic, under the special weights, will carry 57kg. Total prize-money for the race, the field for which will be limited to 16 horses, has been set at approximately $NZ798,174 of which the winner will earn about $NZ416.956. A preparatory race will be available, to invited runners over 1800 metres at Tokyo on November 13.
