Hewson ‘player of the year’

PA Auckland The Wellington and All Black fullback, Alan Hewson has been named “rugby player of the year” in a contest organised by the Ponsonby Rugby Club. He took the title from fellow All Blacks. Graham Mourie, Mark Shaw and Murray Mexted.

Hewson scored 26 points in the third test between the All Blacks and Wallabies at Eden Park, surpassing the record 24 which Fergie McCormick scored on the same ground against Wales in 1969.
