Te Whata wins shearing final at Alexandra

Samson Te Whata, .of Kaikohe, won the Alexandra final of the Caltex national open fine wool shearing championship last week-end after a close tussle with Colin King, of Otorohanga. King, the current Golden Shears champion. and formerly from Rangiora, had a 20-second advantage over Te Whata at the finish, but the quality of Te Whata’s work gave him victory by a slender margin. Adrian Cox, of Pleasant Point, was third and Peter Burnett, of Rangiora. who only minutes before had finished runner-up to John Kennedy. of Timaru. in the blade shearing championship, was fourth.
