Derailment near Dashwood

Railway traffic on the Pic-ton-Christchurch line was disrupted for 11 hours yesterday by a derailment near Dashwood.

Three waggons of a goods train were derailed about 4 a.m. yesterday about 20km south of Blenheim. Mr ■L. J. Newman, the Railways assistant district traffic manager, said the cause of the derailment was still under investigation. Damage to the track and the waggons was described by Mr Newman as.slight. Passengers on trains affected by the derailment were taken between Seddon and Picton by bus. The line was cleared soon after 3 p.m. Mr Newman said the disruption caused by the. accident was minimal. Any buildup in freight would be cleared quickly.
