Taranaki remains unbeaten
PA New Plymouth Taranaki virtually wrapped up the North Island second division rugby competition when it beat Wanganui. 31-13, at Rugby Park, New Plymouth, on Saturday. The win leaves Taranaki the only unbeaten side, although it has one game to go — against King Country - and it will have to fail heavily to lose the competition on a points for and against basis. That .. would leave Taranaki, King Country and Wanganui sharing the lead. The outstanding player was the Taranaki full-back.
Kieran Crowley. who achieved a personal tally of 20 points — 16 from his kicking. The outstanding Wanganui effort was in the forwards, where the locks, Graeme Coleman and Mike Wild, and the prop. Brent Dallison. outplayed Taranaki, especially in the line-outs where they won more than 75 per cent of the ball. Scorers.Taranaki 31 (Robins (2). Crowley tries.
