Taranaki wins
PA Gisborne Taranaki beat Poverty Bay. 13-6. in a tense and exciting North Island second division rugby match played in perfect conditions in Gisborne yesterday. The Poverty Bav forwards matched the strong Taranaki pack for most of the game. The Taranaki stars were the No. 8. Gavin Wetton. with his good covering work, and the full-back. Kevin Crowley.
Poverty Bay's full-back, lan Murphy, had a fine game with good handling and kicking and ran strongly when coming up on attack, while the locks, Noel Baker and Fletcher Teasdale, did some fine line-out jumping. Taranaki led 4-3 at half-time. Scorers.— Taranaki:. Gavin Wetton. 2 tries: Kevin Crowley, conversion and penalty goal; Poverty Bay: lan Murphy. 2 penalties.
