TV censorship

Sir,—People like Larry Ross and Alan Wilkinson should realise that average TV watching blokes do not need their irrelevant, ■ not to say crack-pot, notions. We average blokes in this country said years ago that Values' economic ideas were impractical, knowing that the more familiar ones worked. Of course we have continued to be proved

right by events and ‘trends since. As for nuclear war, we know that the only decent alternatives are to survive or die with the Americans. How else can we defeat communism? Only communists, antiAmericans, and their dupes will disagree with us. We are grateful that TV does not confuse the nation by airing alternatives to the familiar, tried, and therefore guaranteed policies. Larry Ross and Alan Wilkinson should adapt, like the rest of us, to the real world and where it is heading.— Yours, etc., JOHN GALLAGHER. September 2, 1982.

Sir,—l respond to the many writers who have been speaking against censorship. The will of God is expressed clearly in the Ten Commandments, Exodus Chapter 20 and the Sermon on the Mount, Matthew Chapter 5,6,7. Discipline, restraint and modesty are all virtues. Those who oppose God's will and the revelation of Jesus Christ usually oppose all things sacred. There seems to be a perverse pleasure in spoiling things beautiful. Fabians, intellectuals and atheists so often set themselves above God and the Divine spark in the human race. They seem to want to pull civilised society down to the level of wild beasts and to take away the tenderness and mystery of intimate relationships, and make such common and public. Congratulations to the Corporation and Mr Fabian. We took forward to the day when all offensive material is off the public screen and relegated, as it should be, to the rubbish can—Yours, etc., NEVILLE M. RUSH, - Director, Christchurch Integrity Centre. September 3, 1982.
