League rescue sequel

The dramatic, and almost certainly life-saving, rescue of a young rugby league player in Christchurch earlier this month had a happy sequel in Auckland. Terry Hermanson was participating in a practice match for the Canterbury 15years tournament side at Halswell Domain on August 8 when he was knocked over in a tackle, swallowed his tongue and had his jaw locked. Two team officials, Messrs Barry Craig and Bruce Everest, wrestled on the ground with the convulsing youngster for more than 3 minutes before they managed to release his tongue. Terry spent a night in Christchurch Hospital. Happily, Terry recovered quickly and was able to fulfil his roles of loose forward and vice-captain of the Canterbury team at the national inter-provincial series in Auckland.

The mishap obviously had no detrimental effect on his football form, and this morning he leaves Auckland with the New Zealand schoolboy Kiwi squad
